A new European regulation will come into effect on june 20, 2025.
From this date, all sellers of smartphones and tablets intended for consumers in the European Union will need to comply with strict energy labeling requirements. The goal? To enhance transparency and promote more responsible purchasing.
What is changing for you ?
Starting June 20, you will need to include the following information on your product pages for smartphones and tablets, as well as when delivering your items:
- Energy efficiency scale : from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient)
- Energy class for each device
- A visual energy label indicating battery life, water and dust resistance, and drop resistance
- Detailled product information sheet, compliant with EU standards
These elements must be visible on your listings and physically attached to the product.
Why this change ?
The energy label already exists for household appliances. Expanding it to smartphones and tablets aims to:
- Encourage responsible purchasing
- Better highlight sustainable products
- Contribute to the EU’s climate goals
From July 1, 2025, washing machines and dryers will also transition to an energy scale from A to G. This change is part the broader reform of environmental labeling online.
Who is affected ?
All professional sellers distributing smartphones and tablets to the European Union, regardless of the platform:
marketplaces (Amazon, eBay ,Boulanger ,Fnac… )
E-commerce websites
Social media with e-commerce functionality (Facebook, etc.)
