How to Sell on Zalando With BigCommerce

Eleanor Hecks • February 18, 2022
Gone are the days when eBay was the only option for an online store. BigCommerce is now on multiple platforms, such as Poshmark, Mercari, DePop and Zalando. Zalando is a German-based fashion marketplace. It’s very persnickety about what brands are allowed on the platform. According to Statista, they’re already in the 121.6 million order range annually.
Zalando integrates with your digital commerce platform, unlike some other auction-style sites. You must apply to sell on Zalando and be approved, but the process isn’t as complicated as you might think, assuming you offer the types of items it wants on its site.
1. Register for a Zalando Account
Your first step is to create a store on Zalando. Customize it to match your brand’s personality. You can easily synchronize with popular shopping cart software if you already have an online store.
2. Embrace Abandoned Cart Emails
Not everyone who adds your item to their shopping cart will finish the purchase. Around 69% of all shopping carts get abandoned, but Zalando has a plan for that. It sends out an email with a video embed explaining the benefits of completing the order in a cute way.

3. Choose the Right Products
You’ll want to sell the things Zalando is best known for – clothing, shoes, accessories and sportswear. They need to be higher-end, designer goods. A $5 T-shirt isn’t going to cut it on this platform. There are other places to sell discount goods.
Zalando is about high quality. The good news is you’ll have a higher profit margin with most of your products.
4. Set Up Simple Cross Listing
Create a smart omnichannel experience. People expect consistency whether they shop on your website, in a store or on Zalando. Store owners can save time and effort by using Shoppingfeed. This platform can list your items across many channels and keep the data consistent throughout.
Another advantage of using Shoppingfeed is you can coordinate special offers, sales and advertising all from one platform.
5. Set Your Policies
You must offer a 100-day return policy to sell on Zalando. The platform also requires free delivery and returns, so you should partner with the Hermes shipping platform. Once you’ve met the requirements, you’re ready to start selling.
Be aware that returns could wind up costing you, though, so be sure you can earn enough profit to make Zalando worth your time.
6. Understand the Fee Structure
Study the commission structure. Like eBay, Zalando takes a percentage of each sale based on what type of product it was and the pricing structure. Expect to pay around 25% in fees if you’re selling expensive items.
7. Use Excellent Online Selling Methods
Follow the advice that applies to all types of online shopping sites. Upload high-quality photos of your product from all angles. Fill in detailed descriptions. Try not to leave any blanks to help with search results and matching your item with a buyer who wants it.
When Is the Best Time to Sell on Zalando?
The platform is growing rapidly year over year. Now is an excellent time to register for an account, particularly if you sell boutique-quality or designer items. Take the time to introduce yourself to Zalando and see if you’re a good match. You’ll have to put in a bit of work getting the word out about your Zalando store, but you’ll reach millions of new customers.
