EPREL Identifier Becomes Mandatory on Google Shopping in 2025

Emy Bigirimana • December 17, 2024

Starting from January 1, 2025, Google will require the inclusion of the EPREL identifier (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) on product listings for items with an energy label.

What is it?

The EPREL ID is a unique number for each product regulated by the European Union in terms of energy labelling. Made up of 7 digits, this identifier ensures that a product meets European energy and environmental standards. To date, the energy label is one of the most well-known and effective tools in European energy policy. It was introduced by the European Union, and its proper functioning is enabled by the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL).

Products affected:

If you’d like to learn more, the EPREL database (European Product Registry for Energy Labelling) maintains an up-to-date list of all products subject to this requirement.

Important information:

This change applies to Google Shopping starting January 1, 2025: any product not displaying its EPREL ID will be de-listed. This requirement ensures that products visible on Google Shopping comply with the applicable regulations, particularly in terms of energy efficiency.
